The book was published in 1996 and is 133 pages long (at the exclusion of the cover and introductory pages). In a private letter, Rob tells «Of course, according to the present situation, the book is not ‘complete’ anymore. After 1996, 3 new species… have been described. Moreover, the taxonomic rank of some regional ecotypes (considered by me as synonyms) have been changed to species or subspecies…». However, the book is still a reference about the genus Matucana. Rob further hopes «that this new digital version will once again contribute to increasing the popularity of these beautiful cacti».
